Cancellation and refund policy

This policy covers every booking made through Work From Hills. It is part of our terms of use. Please read it before you pay, because paying the invoice means you accept it.

How much notice you need to give

The notice period depends on how long you booked for. It is counted back from your move-in date.

  • Stays of one or two weeks (up to 14 nights): cancel at least 14 days before your move-in date and we refund what you paid.
  • Stays longer than two weeks: cancel at least 30 days before your move-in date and we refund what you paid.

If you cancel with less notice than this, the first 30 nights of the booking are not refundable. The partner has held the home for you and turned other people away, and a room in the hills is hard to fill at short notice.

The most you can lose is those 30 nights. For a stay of 30 nights or fewer, that is the whole booking. For a longer stay, we refund anything you have paid beyond the first 30 nights. If you book six months and cancel late, you are charged for one month, not six.

If you book closer to your move-in date than the notice period (for example, a month-long stay that starts in ten days), the first 30 nights are not refundable from the moment you pay.

How to cancel

Email hello@workfromhills.co from the address you booked with, or message us on WhatsApp at +91 70827 39903 from the number you booked with. Give your name, the stay and your move-in date. The cancellation counts from the time your message reaches us, in Indian Standard Time. Telling the partner alone does not cancel the booking.

What a refund includes

A refund is the amount you paid us for the stay, less any bank or payment gateway charges that we cannot recover. We send it to the account or payment method you paid from, within 7 to 10 working days of confirming the cancellation. Your bank may take a few more days to show it.

Changing your dates

You can ask to move your dates once, free of charge, if you ask within the same notice period (14 or 30 days before move-in). The change depends on the home being free, and you pay any difference in price. A request made with less notice is treated as a cancellation.

Leaving early, arriving late and not arriving

  • In a stay of 30 nights or fewer, nights you do not use are not refunded, whether you arrive late or leave early.
  • If you have not arrived within 24 hours of your move-in date and have not told us, the booking ends, and the first 30 nights are not refunded.
  • If you want to leave a longer stay early, tell us at least 30 days ahead. You pay up to the end of those 30 days, and we refund anything you have paid beyond them.
  • If a partner asks you to leave because you broke the house rules or the law, nothing is refunded.

If the partner or we cancel

It is rare, but a partner may have to cancel, for example after damage to the home or a family emergency. If that happens we offer you another home where we have one. If you would rather not take it, or we have nothing to offer, we refund everything you paid for the nights you will not stay. That refund is the full extent of what we owe you for a cancelled booking. We do not cover travel tickets, other accommodation or other costs.

If something is wrong when you arrive

If the home is seriously different from its listing (a listed internet connection that does not work, a listed room or facility that is not there), tell us within 24 hours of arriving and send photos or a speed test. We will get the partner to fix it. If it cannot be fixed in reasonable time, we move you to another home or refund the nights you have not used.

We cannot refund problems we hear about only after you have left, because by then nobody can check or fix them. A power cut or a provider outage that affects the whole area is not a fault with the home and is not grounds for a refund.

Weather, roads and other things nobody controls

Hill roads close. Landslides, snow, floods, strikes, government orders and cancelled flights or trains can all stop a trip. The notice periods above still apply when they do, and we recommend travel insurance for this reason.

There is one exception. If a government order or a closed road makes the home itself impossible to reach or use on your move-in date, we will move your stay to other dates within the following six months, subject to the home being free. This is a change of dates, not a cash refund.

Security deposits

Some homes ask for a refundable security deposit, mostly for stays of a month or more. If one applies, the amount is on your invoice. It is returned within 7 working days of you moving out, less the cost of any damage, missing items or unpaid bills.

Questions

Write to hello@workfromhills.co before you book if anything here is unclear. We would rather answer a question now than argue about a refund later.
